I agree Don, so precious.

sharon: the arctic air is here, but a little milder. It's supposed to be around -5 F tonight. I have two heat lamps in with Broody and it is 45 F in the brooder. I'm ok with that as she is quite the heater.

I need to figure out how to get the little ones to get out and eat and drink without freezing their little tootsies.

Chris: thanks man! broody did it all, I just sort of cheered her on

joanna: there aren't a lot of things that are as cute as chicks!

Adorable! All of them! I just want to gather them all up for a cuddle. Broody has done marvelously! What a grand girl!

Don said...

claire: I'm with you. I want to scoop them up, but Broody isn't too excited about that. I am planning on slowly letting her know that we're in this together!

They are so cute! She did well and I love all her fluffiness with her skirt out waiting to warm the chicks.

Don said...

rhonda: I agree, she is a big puff ball of coziness. I hope she can keep them together and warm during this cold spell! I may have to bring them in to the basement!

Too adorable! I am trying to figure out how many we are going to have... we have four hens setting and all of them have at least five eggs under them! I am going to be up to my eyeballs in chickens too!

Way to go broody ...What a clever chook...
I am sure she will figure the teaching process of eating and watering the chicks.
Hard part over time to watch them grow...Ain't Mother nature the best???

All the nurses in our ICU say
AAAAWWWWWWWWWW!!!
I have a question. What is too cold for chickens? It is around 20 in our coop. They seem happy. I just have a great ability to worry.

I ask you,Did you pick broody up and have alil peek whilst she was on her googys??
As you know I have my Lady on eggs after our recent dissapointment,And am hardley doing anything more than feeding and watering her....I don't think she's really eating anyhoo.
But I figure she knows best what she's doing.
Just would like to be sure she has'nt any cracked and getting smelly under there??
We don't have lights and heaters just her in a Pen and run,It is Summer here

I guess that last comment about the different colour chicks is silly now that I think about pup & cat litters, lol. But it just surprised me when I first saw the photos.

Your new chicks look adorable.

Please let's go for a long visit with them today, with the camera, and get updated portraits. They must have changed by now!

They touch me in a place I didn't know was there! And Broody too, maybe Broody especially.

Congrats Don. By looking at this cute lil chicken reminiscing me of childhood memory. I was a naughty kid and I like cute lil chicken like this. Every time I saw one it won't stop me from catch one to hold and play even though I knew I would end up get hurt by the mama!

AWWWWWW!!!!!

Well done Broody!!

Ruth said you had some good news fella, but I certainly didn't expect to see so MANY pieces of good news!!

Looks like you're going into full time farmer mode Don - when are you giving up teaching?

Seriously though - are you contemplating furthering your farming career?

:d

I'm so proud!! Looks like you have some lovely little chicks on your hands. I hope that some of our hens will go broody soon. I think that almost all of our eggs are fertile! Well, having 7 roosters, what can you expect?

Awesome, so cute and best of all someone gave me a cochin bantam hen, I am hoping she will go broody in spring.

With the heat lamps I think you will be okay, when I was a teen I had a bantam hatch chicks in April, it was so cold there was still snow on the ground and I did not have a heat lamp. All the chicks lived and all turned out to be hens.
