The Season For Giving

Let It Snow!

School teachers and children both love snow days. Friday (Dec. 19) was our first snow day of the school year. When there is a chance for a snow day, the students at my school wear their pj's inside out and backwards and eat their dessert first at dinner the night before the wished for event. Success all-around!

10 inches of snow

Welcome to the Farm.
Peter has been working in the Caribbean
since August, and is heading back in January.
GREEN BARN GIVEAWAY!
If you have read this far, you deserve a chance to win this wonderful prize. Can you see the Horseshoe hanging over the door to the chicken coop? Well, everyone who leaves a comment this week will get put into the drawing to win this real horseshoe, which I found in the Green Barn.
Whoo-Hooo!
Doesn't this sound like a great prize? I can tell you are excited.

The Prize.

Good Luck!

We have had highs of 5 deg for the last 2 days, I have kept 250wt brooder lamp on in the coop. They seem comfortable but am loosing 1 hen to ? She is lethargic, wont eat, pushes herself away from the girls. We took her into the house to stay warm but it looks bad. All of the others seem happy, laying well. I dont expect her to be alive when I get home from work in the morning. Im so sad. On a brighter note, congrats on the egg production! Kelly

Boy, your weather is increasing the photo ops exponentially! I don't bother taking pictures outside here, because all we have is cold, dreary and gray. The usual central Ohio weaather. And right now the wind is fierce and blowing in some bitter cold for tonight. I bought extra heat lamp bulbs yesterday in case mine decides to go out. The coop is insulated, but I don't want the water to freeze.

You and Ruth keep warm!

Who could resist the chance to acquire a Good Luck charm? Maybe it will bring snow?
Raining here again--drat! though the darkness makes the lights on my tree shine more brightly; I'm so envious of your beautiful snow.

Please sign me on for the horseshoe drawing....would love to win and hang it on my patio.

Central California is foggy, frosty, wet and cold....plenty of snow up in the mountains. I don't miss the shoveling of my youth in mid-Michigan.

10 inches huh? Thats quite a bit. But Michigan is known for that! Us here in Illinois? We get ice. Some snow, too, but lots of ice and wind.

The Caribbean? I bet hes having dreams of that right now!

Don, I though the kids in your class would be disappointed to get out of school for a snow day. ;-)

I love that our snow day made our Christmas break longer!

Donica: Unfortunately my tractor doesn't have a snowblade. However you have a good eye as the tire tracks are those of my neighbor's tractor!

Scavenger: I have heard that this particular horseshoe is loaded with good luck and the only way to release all of it is to give it away!

freefalling: yikes! that would be quite a shipping fee!

Drowsey: snow and canada, hmmm I've heard that when your summer falls on a saturday, you go to a ball game and have a picnic.

sandy: this view of the driveway is what sold us on this property

Don said...

caroled: I'm glad you stopped by. I am a little obsessed with my flock of chickens!

kelly: that's sad about your hen. I think of my hens as part of the family. I hope she is ok! I can't believe how my girls keep churning out the eggs!

Don said...

susan: it is really cold here! The thermometer reads 3 degrees F with the wind chill well below zero. I think my water has frozen, but they are all sleeping now. I'll give them a big batch of warm water in the morning. Maybe I'll make them a warm mash to go with it.

laura:after 10" Friday, we got another 4" sunday. there are drifts up to my waist behind the barn! I think we're in for a white christmas. Your lights sound very pretty!

Don said...

caa: there is a lot of busy weather happening all across the country right now. I hope you keep dry and cozy! Thanks for stopping by.

frugalmom: i lived in Illinois for about 6 of my growing up years and you're right about the weather there. Although Chicago (Joliet) did get a lot of snow. Our son is loving the snow, but is thinking about the palm trees!

joanna: hmmm, snow day vs school, they better say school, but i have a feeling there were a lot cheers when the news hit the tv.

sugarcreek: Me too! I don't mind the extra day. I don't want to gloat too much tho.

Great photos, we love the snow here, but so far... nothing!

Ginnie said...

HA! Anyone could use a good horseshoe, Don, especially me right now. You can just hand-deliver it to me next week...if I'm so lucky!! :) To be honest, it will be enough if you sill have most of that snow left. I will be in heaven (where I probably won't need a horseshoe?).

Don said...

stiggy: No snow!? Our English traditions at Christmas time all rely on England being blanketed with fresh, Christmas snow.

Get with it already!

I hope this season brings you joy and lots of great family time.

Don said...

ginnie: we can all benefit from a bit o' luck. If you don't win, I'll let you touch it and maybe you will get some of its magic.

You have a beautiful place. I love all the green! The snow you can keep but I would gladly enjoy a horseshoe.

I wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas.

The first pic is a great view of the green barn...envious here, except for the snow part.

Cool on the lucky horseshoe...I think giving away a lucky horseshoe is double lucky for you!

Well.. I love your prize giveaway... But I came to see the amazing photos of course! Sounds a bit like the weather we have been having out here in Victoria. Lots of the white stuff... Beautiful pics!

Woo Hoo, I am, I've never owned a real horseshoe, I have owned 600 pairs of 3D glasses, but somehow it just isn't the same. Gotta love those snow days, never had them when I was a kid. 10" of snow, we have had that much but over tons of days, snows just enough to be a pain.

I just love seeing all the snow photos it makes it seem like Christmas. It is summer here in the Southern Hemisphere and the weather isn't that hot just pleasantly warm. I hope you have a great Christmas, please keep the snow Photos coming it looks just wonderful.

Merry Christmas from Downunder...

You can count me in for the horseshoe drawing. I'd even put it up on the log cabin. There isn't a farm for miles. Everyone would wonder if I found it on our property. I love the view up your driveway. Keep your chickens warm. I lie awake in bed at night wondering about the little white one looking out the window.

Aren't you getting more right now? All our predicted storms lately have been duds.

Don I'm glad to see that you have the horse shoe pointing up, so none of the luck falls out..

I don't feel so bad now with all the snow we have been getting to know that your knee to hip deep too.. Looks like we are getting a taste of the next ice age....

beautiful pictures..

Beautiful pictures - we are quite warm here (about 9 degrees I would say) and definitely no snow. Still feeling like Christmas though. Hope you have a good one.

I'm jealous. It's close to 70 degrees here and no snow in sight!!!

Lyn said...

What beautiful pictures of the snow...we get nothing like that in the UK and even a tiny bit causes the country to come to a standstill.
Hope you had a Merry Christmas and I wish you all the best for 2009

Lyn said...

By the way- You must KEEP the horseshoe for good luck. I decorate horseshoes with horses names for outside the stables at the yard where our horse is kept. I give them as good luck presents to the owners.

I have to leave comments! :) I love the green barn! I am NOT jealous of the snow, but those are some absolutely beautiful pictures! Now that I have said the "s" word, watch, we will get some more. Tee hee.
